Krishna and Radha

arjuna uvaca

evam satata-yukta ye
bhaktas tvam paryupasate
ye capy aksaram avyaktam
tesam ke yoga-vittamah

Arjuna said:

1. Those devotees who, ever steadfast, worship You thus engaged in Your devotional service, and those again who worship the Imperishable, the Unmanifest - which of these are better versed in yoga [considered to be perfect]?

sri-bhagavan uvaca

mayy avesya mano ye mam
nitya-yukta upasate
sraddhaya parayopetas
te me yuktatama matah

The Blessed Lord said:

2. Those who have fixed their minds on Me, and who, ever steadfast and endowed with supreme Sraddha [transcendental faith], worship Me - them do I consider perfect in yoga.

ye tv aksaram anirdesyam
avyaktam paryupasate
sarvatra-gam acintyam ca
kuta-stham acalam dhruvam

3. But those who worship the Imperishable, the Indefinable, the Unmanifest, the Omnipresent, the Unthinkable, the Unchangeable, the Immovable, the Eternal -

sanniyamyendriya-gramam
sarvatra sama-buddhayah
te prapnuvanti mam eva
sarva-bhuta-hite ratah

4. Having restrained [controlled] all the senses, even-minded everywhere, engaged in the welfare of all beings - verily they also come unto Me.

kleso 'dhikataras tesam
avyaktasakta-cetasam

5. Greater is their difficulty whose minds are set on the Unmanifested [impersonal feature of the Supreme], for the goal of the Unmanifested is very hard for the embodied to reach.

ye tu sarvani karmani
mayi sannyasya mat-parah
ananyenaiva yogena
mam dhyayanta upasate

6. But those who worship Me, renouncing all actions in Me, regarding Me as the Supreme Goal, meditating on Me with single-minded yoga -

tesam aham samuddharta
mrtyu-samsara-sagarat
bhavami na cirat partha
mayy avesita-cetasam

7. For them whose thought is set on Me, I become very soon, O Partha, the deliverer from the ocean of the mortal Samsara [birth and death-material existence].

mayy eva mana adhatsva
mayi buddhim nivesaya
nivasisyasi mayy eva
ata urdhvam na samsayah

8. Fix your mind on Me alone, let your thoughts dwell in Me. You will hereafter live in Me alone. Of this there is no doubt.

atha cittam samadhatum
na saknosi mayi sthiram
abhyasa-yogena tato
mam icchaptum dhananjaya

9. If you are not able to fix your mind steadily on Me, O Dhananjaya, then seek to reach Me by Abhyasa-yoga [bhakti-yoga].

abhyase 'py asamartho 'si
mat-karma-paramo bhava
mad-artham api karmani
kurvan siddhim avapsyasi

10. If you are unable even to practice Abhyasa-yoga [bhakti-yoga], be you intent on doing actions for My sake; even by performing actions for My sake you will attain perfection.

athaitad apy asakto 'si
kartum mad-yogam asritah
sarva-karma-phala-tyagam
tatah kuru yatatmavan

11. If you are not able to do even this, then taking refuge in Me, abandon the fruits of all action with the self subdued.

sreyo hi jnanam abhyasaj
jnanad dhyanam visisyate
dhyanat karma-phala-tyagas
tyagac chantir anantaram

12. Better indeed is knowledge than (formal) Abhyasa; better than knowledge is meditation; better than meditation is the renunciation of the fruit of action; peace immediately follows renunciation.

advesta sarva-bhutanam
maitrah karuna eva ca
nirmamo nirahankarah

13. He who hates no being, who is friendly and compassionate to all, who is free from the feeling of 'I and mine', even-minded in pain and pleasure and forbearing,

14. Ever content, steady in meditation, self-controlled and possessed of firm conviction, with mind and intellect fixed on Me, such a devotee of Mine is very dear to Me.

18. He who is the same to foe and friend and also in honor and dishonor, who is the same in cold and heat, in pleasure and pain, who is free from attachment,

19. To whom censure and praise are equal, who is silent, content with anything, homeless, steady-minded, full of devotion - that man is dear to Me.

ye tu dharmamrtam idam
yathoktam paryupasate
sraddadhana mat-parama
bhaktas te 'tiva me priyah

20. They, verily, who follow this immortal dharma described above endued with Sraddha [faith], looking upon Me as the Supreme Goal, and devoted - they are exceedingly dear to Me.

In the Upanishad of the Bhagavad Gita, the knowledge of Brahman, the Supreme, the science of Yoga and the dialogue between Sri Krishna and Arjuna, this is the twelfth discourse designated:
